Following project Comenius 1 started between Vastseliina Gymnasium and five other European schools.

The first meeting between new partner schools started 29.09.2004 a. in Belgium Dendermondes.
Projeckt summary
With ‘Young in Europe’ we aim to raise an interest in learning in our target group of 14- to 16-year olds, through different aspects of youth culture and everyday life. Learning about the differences and similarities in the way young people in the partner countries spend their free time, eat and drink, dance and sing, will motivate them to reflect on their own habits, lives, ways and learning.
A questionnaire at the beginning of the project will tell us how the youngsters in the different countries spend their time, at school or in their free time, what they judge as important (family, friends, youth culture, values…) and what might be considered ‘typical’ for their own youth culture. They will probably also find out that through differences, a lot of similarities become clear.
A few themes have already been selected: school days, food (healthy and junk), free time and holidays, songs and languages. In the first year of our project, the pupils/schools will get acquainted: the pen pal programme (we already started schoolyear 03-04) will continue, the pupils will present their schools in a powerpoint presentation and/or video. Our second main item will be ‘food’. Pupils will make a cookery book for each other.
Year two will concentrate on languages and songs. Pupils will make a ‘basic language course’ for their own language. The course will teach languages through items interesting to the youngsters. They can also test the knowledge when meeting eachother. Finally a CD will be made with songs from the different countries. Last year will deal with free time and holidays (cultural holidays e.g.)
